I was wondering who's watching Gundam Seed Destiny right now? The fansubs have gotten to episode 43, out of the most likely 49-50 episodes. If anyone has seen Gundam Seed, GSDestiny is quite a good sequel, although the sequel kinda lacks a real protagonist.

Just saw the last episode of Gundam Seed Destiny.
-series review: contains many spoilers-
The series began with great premise: lots of action, many new characters and an exciting new ship and crew. Athrun also joins ZAFT again, and is portrayed as a seasoned veteran. This is great since he always played 2nd violin to Kira in Gundam Seed. Also, the series viewed the CE universe from a ZAFT perspective. Unfortunately the Earth Alliance has deteriorated to a fascist, Blue Cosmos-dominated faction, but for narrative purposes, it's common practice to demonize the opposition.
But then Kira and Lacus return. After that, the new characters are completely pushed back. Although I (as one of the few out there) actually like Kira and Lacus, Shinn and the Minerva crew don't get a fair chance to develop themselves. In fact, Shinn deteriorates into a whiny, spiteful and immature brat who's the lapdog of any who nurture his aggressive feelings. Let's say he's the childish anime version Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker. (And that's not not the only Star Wars simile, see below). The Minerva crew are demoted to being a makeshift band of brawlers, being the good guys or bad guys, depending on what the Archangel crew and Orb endeaver.
What's worse, Fukada (the director) 's horrible habit of superfluous flashbacks hits in spades: there are 7 pure clip shows, and évery episode contains 10-20% of reused material. Even many of the action scenes, a strong point in the beginning of this series, are recycled from previous episodes or even Gundam Seed.
And then comes the worst of all: the last episodes. Next to being very reminiscent to the Gundam Seed ending (with many sequences ripped straight from Gundam Seed), it even copies elements from Star Wars: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. There's a planetoid superweapon, the bad guy sits in a huge space with a big, round, faceted window behind him, the bad guy's apprentice has a change of heart and kills his master.. It's the final slap in the face, a final insult to the fans and the ultimate bummer for this series.
And on top of all this, many of the new Gundam designs (Impulse, Strike Freedom,...) are really ugly. Yuck. -End spoilers-
In conclusion: Gundam Seed Destiny makes the old Gundam Seed cast shine, but it does it in a very lame way. Before the old cast return, the series is great, but after that, it goes down a downward spiral. Abandoned characters, endless clips and flashbacks, and a story that makes copy&paste look like the pinnacle of originality.

From my AnimeDB review since I don't feel like typing a new one....
Well overall Gundam Seed Destiny is pretty decent series. On the most part both Animation and sound is pretty good. Good action overall and all that good stuff, but of course that’s all just face value ^^;;.
Now into the main bulk of my review, after watching the entire series I can bluntly say I’m quite disappointed. The 1st half of the series was total crap (think rehash to the extreme >,<;;) if anything the 1st part of the series is pretty much a redo of Gundam Seed, with some added twists here and there. However not all is lost for GSD, the 2nd half of the series is where it really starts to pick up, too bad its only 10 eps of interesting story. The potential to be a good series was lost due to the fact that they placed all the new ideas at the very end.
Some Spoilers below, best not to read on for those who are still watching the series. Its hard to put my point across without giving some sort of reference to talk about.
Personally I really liked how they made the whole Destiny Plan idea with Gilbert, however they never really fully expanded on the idea due to the fact that they had a few eps left b4 the last one (Eps 50). It crops up now and again but it never really becomes solid until eps 42 or so (woot 8 eps to wrap up the series, and imo were MUCH better than the rest of the series combined). Don’t get me started on the ending, o boy they really speed though everything there and not explain like anything. Also to add how the people act so very illogical when it comes to the series. Lets see...
They have Genesis, and they use it liberally.... Also they plan to use Requiem on Orb which will wipe out millions of people, idk about you but the people in Seed were more believable than these doods who thoughtlessly use weapons of mass destruction on large amounts of people. At least the people in Seed refused to fire it (except for Zala but he`s crazy mad >_>). At least that Logos dood has a reason, he’s f*cking insane! Just like his predecessor (both of which I forget their names lol). But I guess they can get away with it somewhat, Gilbert likes people that follow his every wish, like a dog on a leash.
Spoilers are teh ended!
The main character Shinn, oi.... what a pain he was. Talk about static Character, he’s the same from the beginning to the end. Every time you think he’s going to change, he reverts back to good old idiot Shinn, /sigh. Sometimes I can see myself banging my head against my desk b/c he reverts back to old Shinn when you think he’s about to change (and this happens like a few times in the series >,<;;). I guess it can’t be helped though, he’s a dog who listens to his master. If Gilbert told him to shoot himself, he most likely would.
The rest aren’t worth mentioning really, actually the rest of the character, minus a few of course, run into 2 categories:
A) They play a small or no role in the series. Like those 3 doods that appear to save Orb, who the hell are they, where did they come from and lastly why are they even in the series?
or
B) They’re old character that haven’t really evolved much from the original series.
Even if the series did suck as a whole, there are a few good things going for it. The series has the potential to be good but it just doesn’t follow though with that potential unfortunately.
